Your personal information is for sale!

Do you realize that all those offers you receive in the mail for pre-approved credit cards are because the three major credit bureaus (Equifax, Experian, TransUnion) are selling your personal information? It's true! The same FACTA Act that allows you to receive 1 free credit report per year also allows the credit bureaus to include your name and information on lists used by creditors or insurers to make firm offers of credit or insurance.

FACT: theft of these "pre-approved" offers is one of the most common ways someone can steal your identity and get credit. At the very least, you should shred offers you don't want or need - Don't just throw them away.

Today, there's a disturbing trend involving clients who have applied for a new mortgage. Your personal information is being sold without your consent to hundreds of mortgage brokers throughout the country as soon your credit report is run for a new mortgage. These brokers are generally fly by night companies that operate several states away and are solely interested in offering you a bait and switch mortgage offer. These brokers will call you repeatedly and mail you solicitation after solicitation in hopes of deceiving you. These brokers offer terms that are untrue and misleading.

I take your trust seriously. You can count on honest, straight forward mortgage recommendations from me. After all, the best compliment to me is the referral of friends and family to my mortgage practice. This can only be achieved by servicing my clients with great care and respect.

How do you stop this from happening in the future?

  1. Add your phone number to the Do Not Call List

This can be done online by visiting www.donotcall.gov or by calling 888-382-1222. Remember to make sure to add both your home and mobile cell phone numbers.

  1. Opt Out of Prescreened Credit Offers

This will stop creditors from viewing your personal credit information without your written consent. In addition, it will cut down on the junk mail (unwanted credit card solicitations). This alone lowers your chances of becoming a victim of identity theft. You can opt out by visiting www.optoutprescreen.com or by calling 888-567-8688.

Your privacy matters to me!

I work diligently to protect your privacy and personal information. It is important to know these unsolicited offers were not the result of Fairview Mortgage Capital or Cheryl Garner releasing your personal information. By following the steps above, you will protect yourself and lower your odds of becoming a victim of identity theft.  Want "real" identity theft protection? Consider signing up for LifeLock. My special is 10% off through www.cherylgarner.com - $1,000,000 Identity Theft Protection.  Click here for more information on what LifeLock can do for you!

"When I showed Cheryl a good faith estimate from another loan officer, Cheryl showed me ways I was being overcharged by $3,000.  Cheryl is the most honest and professional person I've ever worked with.  I will always be grateful".  Ruth Barges, Culver City, California
